Equity Ownership in America, 2002

American Council for Capital Formation
October 2002

(PDF)

Equity ownership increased by more than 7 percent over the three-year period from January 1999 to January 2002, according to a new report from the Investment Company Institute (ICI)* and the Securities Industry Association (SIA)*. Financial services experts credit employers for expanding the ranks of investors and stress that despite the recent bear market Americans continue to recognize the importance of investing to help them achieve long-term retirement and education goals. This special report prepared by the ACCF Center for Policy Research highlights some of the major findings of the ICI/SIA report, Equity Ownership in America, 2002, which is based on the results of a telephone survey conducted in January 2002. ICI President Matthew P. Fink and SIA President Marc E. Lackritz are both members of the ACCF’s
board of directors.
